Leadership Development

I have spent the last two days working with my school district's first and second-year assistant principals, as I do each month for our monthly meetings...

The PGCPS Assistant Principal Induction Program is just four years old and I have had the privilege of helping shape this program from its inception.

Leadership Development is at my core. APIP Cohorts 3 and 4 are so appreciative of everything that assists them in becoming the effective school leader they desire.

I appreciate Cohorts 1 and 2 who are now part of the team helping in our development efforts.

I absolutely LOVE what I do! I have held numerous positions in school districts....Teacher, Instructional Coordinator, Test Development Specialist, Assistant Principal, Regional Instructional Specialist, Principal....and now Leadership Development Coach is by far THE BEST!

It's the season of THANKS (although everyday is)....I am grateful...

School Leadership Programs End of Year Celebration!

As my school district comes to a close of another school year, The Office of Talent Development, School Leadership Programs (SLP) recognizes participants of its program. SLP has the distinct honor of working with novice(1st and 2nd year) assistant principals and principals.
I have the pleasure of coordinating the Assistant Principal Induction Program (APIP) for all newly appointed assistant principals. APIP is a required two-year program that assists in the leadership development of the school district's newest leaders. APIP is ending its third year and strategically preparing for year four. Second-year assistant principals participate in monthly school visits, provide reviews and critiques of educational articles, conduct their own Leadership Development Team meeting with district leaders as a guide and support, reflect and provide recommendations for their school's school improvement process, and so much more.
I am exceptionally proud of APIP Cohort 2. They were engaged in their learning and developmental process and took the inquiry process to another level. I look forward to seeing these educational leaders continue to do great things in our school district and in the field of education. I also thank them for their commitment, dedication, and resiliency during the two years spent in APIP. I was charged with helping them develop as a leader, but they in turn have helped me become a more effective and intentional leader.
Thank you APIP Cohort 2! Best wishes on your future endeavors.

PGCPS APIP In The Spotlight | Andrea M. Thomas Munson

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. Munson's family moved to Upper Marlboro when she was a toddler. She was fortunate to grow up and go to school in Prince George's County Public Schools with some of the best teachers: Arrowhead Elementary, James Madison Junior High, and Frederick Douglass High School. Following in her mother's footsteps--a 32 year educator in PGCPS-- Mrs. Munson chose to pursue a career in education. She taught for over a decade in middle schools before transitioning to the role of instructional specialist in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction for another decade. However, Mrs. Munson never lost the interest of working directly with students; this led her to return to the school setting last year. When not engaged in her roles as Academic Dean and 8th Grade Administrator, Mrs. Munson enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, puttering in her gardens, and whipping up culinary masterpieces.

The Assistant Principal Induction Program (APIP) is a required program for first and second year Assistant Principals in Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), Maryland.
